What is a solar PV system and how does it work?
A solar PV system supplies usable power using photovoltaics. Solar panels absorb sunlight and convert it into DC electricity, a solar inverter converts that into AC for your building, and mounting structures, cabling and electrical accessories complete a working system.
What are the different types of PV system?
There are three main types: grid-tied, hybrid (grid plus storage) and off-grid. The right one depends on your current power supply and what you want from the system. See them side by side.
What is the difference between an on-grid and an off-grid system?
On-grid means your solar system is tied to your local utility's grid. Off-grid means you are not connected to the utility in any way, so you are 100% self-sustaining, with batteries for storage.
What is net metering?
A billing arrangement where the excess solar energy your panels produce is sent to the grid and credited to you. Your bill reflects the difference between what you import and what you export.
Will solar panels generate electricity on cloudy days?
Yes, though less. Under a light overcast sky, panels can produce about half of what they make in full sun.
How many units does solar generate per day?
On average, on sunny days, 1 kW of solar panels generates about 4 kWh (units) of electricity per day.
What is the size and thickness of a panel?
Approximately 1 × 2 metres, and about 40 mm thick.
Does Samvik do floating solar systems?
Yes. We design and install floating solar plants on ponds and reservoirs as well.
How much will I really save on my electricity bill each month?
A 5 kW rooftop system saves around 600 units of electricity a month, which cuts a typical bill by about ₹5,500. Estimate your own savings.
How much roof space will I need?
About 75–80 sq ft of shade-free rooftop per 1 kW of panels. We can work out other combinations of plant capacity and panel efficiency for your roof.
How long does installation take?
About 2–4 weeks for smaller systems and 4–8 weeks for larger ones. Timelines can vary with access to the site.
How often should solar panels be cleaned?
Regular cleaning keeps panels performing at their best. Samvik's experts recommend cleaning and maintenance once a month.
Are solar panels difficult to maintain?
No. They need very little: a periodic light cleaning so dirt, leaves and debris don't block the sunlight.
Will I ever need to replace my solar panels?
Panels typically last 25 to 30 years. If new technology arrives it is easy to upgrade. Regular cleaning and maintenance matters: neglected panels may need replacing sooner.
What if my roof is in poor condition?
If your roof is over 10 years old, schedule a roof inspection first to confirm it is in good condition before panels go up. We can check this on the site survey.
