Panels get the attention, but the mounting structure is what keeps a solar plant standing through 25 years of wind, rain and heat. A weak or poorly protected structure can bend, corrode or fail long before the panels wear out.
Choosing the right steel
Different members of a structure carry different loads, so they use different materials.
- Galvalume (550 MPa) for purlins, rafters and bracings — high strength with an aluminium-zinc coating that resists corrosion.
- Hot-dipped GI or POSMAC for columns and connection channels — thick protective coatings for members close to the ground.
- Mild steel for column extensions where the design calls for it.
Design matters as much as material
Structures must be designed for the wind speed at the site, the soil and foundation type, and the tilt that gives the best generation. Pre-punched members and bolted connections make installation faster and more accurate, and avoid site welding that damages coatings.
Built for the roof or the land
- Ground-mount fixed-tilt structures on concrete or pile foundations.
- Rooftop structures for RCC roofs, including non-penetrative and ballasted designs.
- Tin-shed and curved roofs with mounting that follows the roof profile.
