PM-KUSUM (Pradhan Mantri Kisan Urja Suraksha evam Utthaan Mahabhiyan) is a Government of India scheme run by the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy. It helps farmers use solar power for irrigation, cut diesel use and earn from surplus electricity.
The three components
- Component A — small, decentralised grid-connected solar plants set up on or near farmland, with the power sold to the distribution company.
- Component B — standalone solar water pumps that replace diesel pumps in areas without grid supply.
- Component C — solarisation of existing grid-connected agricultural pumps, including solarising entire agricultural feeders.
Why it matters
Agriculture is a large user of daytime power in many states. Generating that power with solar, close to where it is used, reduces transmission losses, gives farmers reliable daytime supply and lowers the cost of subsidised farm power for the state.
Samvik and PM-KUSUM
Samvik Power designs and builds solar plants and solar water pumps for agriculture, and can guide farmers and developers through the scheme.
Scheme rules and state guidelines change from time to time. Check the latest notifications from MNRE and your state agency before applying.
